LOMA REQS is a kurdish-colombian duo from Hamburg. Loma Reqs means „That’s Why We Dance“ in kurdish. Hêja Netirk, voice and leader of the band, is a native of Kurdistan living in exile. She was arrested in Istanbul in 2016 and accused of terrorist activities. After one year in Bakırköy Women’s Prison she was released due to lack of evidence. She still got convicted for allegedly helping an illegal organisation, making propaganda on social media and calling president Erdogan a fascist. After a witchhunt by the right wing turkish media – Hêja is the grandaughter of the well know kurdish politician Ahmed Türk – she had to flee. Since 2019 she lives in exile in Hamburg. Her Twitter account with 40k followers continues to be banned in Turkey.
Rico Danta js the stage name of Carlos Andres Rico from Colombia, producer and beatmaker of Loma Reqs. He studied music composition in Bogotá and multimedia composition in Hamburg. His compositions combine electronic sounds with popular music from Latin America and the Global South. His live sets range from pop to experimental electronic sounds, always with a danceable touch. His compositions are often used for musical theatre and dance productions
In 2023, Hêja met Rico Danta, and together they began performing at festivals and producing new music.
